i was sitting on the couch this morning drinking my coffee, watching sesame street with luke. it was the episode about how Telly (sp?) and another monster trap a firefly in a jar. luke said "he so sad. he want to be free to see his fam-a-wee". I said "yes, he's so sad. it's not very nice to trap him in the jar, huh?"
the next thing i know luke hops up and walk over to the tv and smashes the top of his head into the tv screen. i was thinking "what on earth?" then he walked back over to me with this awful, sad face and said "they not let me in the screen. they not want me to let the firefly free. ahhhhhh. now i so sad."
HAHAHAHAHA!

luke's first trip to the dentist
{sorry for the blog post overload, but i just feel like there is so much to catch up on. i promise this is the last one, for today at least.}
in the waiting room, still a little nervous.

he gets to pick out a new tooth brush before the cleaning. still a little nervous. he attempted to run back out the door right after this. you can see from his face that he didn't want a new dinosaur tooth brush, heck these don't hold a candle to the singing spider man one at home, he was looking for the nearest exit.

finally up on the exam table. still nervous and now really not sure about this whole business. the hygenist makes friends by giving him is own pair of lighting mcqueen sunglasses to protect his eyes from the big light.

me and sister head back out to the waiting room (i tell luke i need to go potty and will be right back) after we realize he is just not going to do well with me there.

the hygenist comes back to get me a short while later and all is good. luke actually had fun and was talking about incredible hulk with the dentist. he had a huge grin on his face, apparently because the dentist had just put some "super-duper, incredible hulk protector on his teeth".

now he's ready to show off his big boy skills by opening wide and letting the dr take one last look.

and where does luke say he wants to go when i offer to take him to the place of his choice for a celebratory lunch?? taco bell, duh. :)

no more pictures, mom. this is starting to get embarrassing.

and obviously this is from halloween, but i just found it on my memory card. our smiley girl!

and pumpkin carving time, luke enjoys this every year...alot!

my best friend's wedding
my best friend, stacey, got married last weekend. we met in the 3rd grade when stacey had a "mushroom haircut" and was constantly doing gymnastic twirls on an imaginary beam and i had bangs and hadn't grown into my teeth yet. i love her like a sister. here is a recap in pictures.
all the girls and stacey at the rehearsal dinner.

me and my handsome little man

a look of pure joy as he realizes there is a candy bar!

daddy and sister dancing a jig

luke showing off for his friend, reese, with a move we termed "the snake". as you can see from her expression, she was diggin' it.

more of "the snake" but now reese joins in

me and stacey. check out her gorgeous dress! she was seriously the most beautiful bride i have ever seen, and i'm not just sayin' that.

me and my friend, heather. i'm a bridesmaid in her wedding coming up. she is also one of my bestest friends from childhood. and yes, i was rockin' my uggs under my dress. disclaimer: i know it looks like i am holding a beer in this picture, but apparently the lighting was pretty poor and it is actually a bottled water. :) i promise.

and mommy and lukey dancing. i was letting him lead, i'm sure it was a sight.

and thanks to my wonderful mama, who took the kids home early, nick and i enjoyed anice calm crazy night out by ourselves. we were tearing up the dance floor and i was pulling out some moves i didn't even know i had. needless to say, i was quite sore the next morning. there may have been a little lawn mower, dental flossin', grocery shoppin' action going on, but that's all i'm gonna say. nick would try to tell me when the video guys was close so that i would stop, but i must have been feelin' it that night cause i kept giving him this look like "what?" hopefully, we didn't embarrass ourselves too much. i think we have officially turned into one of those "old" married couples with no coordination but who just don't care and don't know when to stop. oh, well, it was one of the most fun evenings we've had in a long time. :)
congrats again, stacey and kelly! we love you guys!

sick, sick sis
sister is sick. she had been running a low grade fever (99-ish) for the past two days and had been a little fussy, both of which i attributed to teething. well, last night she woke up SCREAMING and was burning up. when i checked her temp it was 103.2!!! i gave her some tylenol and was up rocking, bouncing, nursing, cuddling her all night long it seemed like. she was just so miserable and you could tell.
this morning i took her in to see the ped. she still had a fever of 102.8 when we got there and the dr heard lots of wheezing and congestion in her chest. they checked her for flu with some kind of nasal swab test and that, thankfully, came back negative. another explanation, they said, could be RSV. they would have to send her to children's to get tested for that so we decided to treat it like RSV over the weekend and recheck her on monday to see if she has improved.
since RSV is a virus, it basically just has to run it's course and they just prescribed breathing treatments every six hours to help clear out her chest. she responded well to the first treatment at the dr's office so we are hopeful that it's just some other random virus she will knock out pretty soon.
so, we are the proud new owners of a nebulizer machine. i guess every family needs one on hand anyway. and sister, surprisingly, doesn't mind it. the nurse prepared me by saying that "most kids scream the entire 3-5 minutes of the treatment but just keep moving the mask in front of her face". we put it on sis and she starts laughing and making singing noises. the happiest she had been all day. and she sat super still the entire time, like she was trying to cooperate. i wuv her.
so we will be home all weekend and probably for the next week, two weeks, who knows. at least it's too cold to want to leave anyway. i can't wait for nick to get home so he can build a fire. such a great night for it.

conversations with lukey, take two
{luke always tries to get into conversations with people when we are out. today, it was the nurses at the doctor's office.}
luke: (pointing to his head) "you see this? that my curlies? you like curlies?"
nurse: "yes. i love your curly hair. i wish i had curls like that."
luke: "yay, but you don't. just lukeys have curlies."
nurse: "oohhh."
luke: "someday, when you get widdle like me, you can have curlies too."
nurse: (laughing)
luke: "that make you happy? that make you laugh? (forced fake laugh)

conversations with lukey
{driving to take sister to the doctor's office today. we see a big office building where a crane is hoisting some kind of boxes up to the top floor window, which is busted out.}
luke: "what happened, mommy?"
me: "i don't know, it looks like the window got broken and they are trying to fix it."
luke: "sometimes, the wolf come and huff and puff and blow your window out."
me: "oh, really? is that what you think happened?"
luke: (in a very matter of fact tone) "yes."

olivia's six month stats
olivia went for her six month check up last week on january 7th. everything went well. she got two shots in each leg and the oral flu vaccine. luke was such a good big brother and gave her huggies afterward and told her "it be okay sister, not worry, lukey here".
her growth has slowed down a bit, which i'm not too terribly surprised about considering her back cellulite has disappeared. but, don't get me wrong, she's no skinny minny. thunder thighs, double chin, non-existent wrists, and her big ole squishy belly are still in full force. we couldn't love her more, she's such a sweetie.
okay, so on to the stats. this is more for me, really.
weight: 16 lbs 15 oz (60%)
height: 27.5 inches (92%)
head circumference: 17 inches (64%)
bmi: 15.74
we did not see our usual ped, dr. lestz, since she is out on bed rest, preggo with her FOURTH kid. we did see dr. kaplan, though, and he's really good as well. he noticed when shining a light in olivia's eyes that her right eye seems to be weaker. he said that the light is supposed to reflect back in the center of her eye and for some reason is was off-center. he wrote on her referral to the pediatric ophthamologist "for evaluation and treatment of asymmetric light reflex; strabismus nos (right)".
we have an appointment set up for feb 3rd. dr kaplan acted like it was no big deal and at worst she could end up wearing an eye patch to strengthen the right eye. luke would love having a pirate sister, i'm sure.
i have been working on this post for weeks it seems. it's been saved in my drafts box. but it's done now. moving on.

christmas music bothering anyone else?
i know, i know. my blog is still obnoxiously blaring christmas jingles and here we are about two weeks out. i'm kind of like those people that leave their christmas lights up for months because they are too lazy to get out and take them down, much less turn off the automatic timer that keeps turning them on every night.
so i will continue being one of those people until i find the time to do something about it. hmmm...i probably could have used the last few minutes that it has taken to write this post to change it. oh well. now it's time for a bath.
toodles!
