it's official

As if we didn't already have our suspicions. And as one can clearly see from the photo in the previous post. Olivia is a little bit on the chunky side. She went in for her one year visit (a little late, I know), and Dr. Lestz said in the sweetest, gentlest way possible...olivia is a chunk and we need to make sure she is eating good foods and need to cut back the milk.

I guess with the second child, it is easy to overlook the fact that she is consuming 4-6 large milk bottles/sippies a day. And as all the mamas in the 'hood know, I am always running to the store to buy more. Apparently she is supposed to be consuming no more than 20 oz. a day, which is two medium sized sippies.

And, let's just face it, the girl likes to eat and sadly, I think she has inherited her mama's love of food. I gave her three fish sticks and peas the other night for dinner. Not only did she eat all of that in about 5 minutes flat, she was then pointing and screaming at Luke's uneaten fish sticks. She loves her veggies and fruits and all the good stuff. The problem is that she loves everything. She wants to try everything and enjoys everything. So we will not be putting Oivia on a baby diet, but I will be making a better effort of only giving her the good stuff and limiting the corndogs (!!!). Yes, she eats corndogs (bad mommy).

So without further adieu...drum roll, please...

Weight: 27 pounds (95%), pretty sure that's more than Ramsey and Taylor put together :)
Height: 32 inches (95%)
Head: 17 inches (97%)

She also received three vaccines and the first dose of the flu shot.

Oh, and how did I forget to mention the worst part??? Dr. Lestz said no more paci and no more bottles...immediately! Ouch. That's going to sting. I figured I would give her one last night of both since her widdle weggies are sore from the shots and then tomorrow we are going cold turkey.

and for the record

...olivia said "ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma" today. she was pretty upset that i was holding luke and walked right past her instead of picking her up. she threw her hands down and said "ma-ma-ma-ma!" luke and i both started laughing. when i asked her to say it again she said "da-da-da-da-da-da-da". go figure.

and while i'm at it (and because i am terrible at updating the baby book) olivia cut her first teeth at six months exactly. both bottom teeth popped through at the same time. the two top teeth (her vampire fang and the one next to it) have both just barely cut through and the other side is swollen and looks like she'll get her other vampire fang any day now.

"nine" month well baby visit

even though olivia is ten months old, today was her "nine" month visit. no shots, which was good, but they did have to do this finger prick thing to check her iron levels. i don't remember them doing this with luke at this age, but her iron was fine nonetheless.

so here are her stats, more for me.

height: 28 inches (dropped to 46%)
weight: 20.75 pounds (up to 69%, surprise, surprise!)
head: 18 inches (up to 84%)

the doctor said she looks great and will see us back at one year. she suggested doing away with bottles, since she does fine with a sippy at this point. she also said we can go to all table food if we want and stop the baby food. olivia prefers table food so this is great. she also said we can start whole milk at about 11 months, no need to go organic, hormone free will do it.

oh, and her ears looked great for once.

olivia's six month stats

olivia went for her six month check up last week on january 7th. everything went well. she got two shots in each leg and the oral flu vaccine. luke was such a good big brother and gave her huggies afterward and told her "it be okay sister, not worry, lukey here".

her growth has slowed down a bit, which i'm not too terribly surprised about considering her back cellulite has disappeared. but, don't get me wrong, she's no skinny minny. thunder thighs, double chin, non-existent wrists, and her big ole squishy belly are still in full force. we couldn't love her more, she's such a sweetie.

okay, so on to the stats. this is more for me, really.

weight: 16 lbs 15 oz (60%)
height: 27.5 inches (92%)
head circumference: 17 inches (64%)
bmi: 15.74

we did not see our usual ped, dr. lestz, since she is out on bed rest, preggo with her FOURTH kid. we did see dr. kaplan, though, and he's really good as well. he noticed when shining a light in olivia's eyes that her right eye seems to be weaker. he said that the light is supposed to reflect back in the center of her eye and for some reason is was off-center. he wrote on her referral to the pediatric ophthamologist "for evaluation and treatment of asymmetric light reflex; strabismus nos (right)".

we have an appointment set up for feb 3rd. dr kaplan acted like it was no big deal and at worst she could end up wearing an eye patch to strengthen the right eye. luke would love having a pirate sister, i'm sure.

i have been working on this post for weeks it seems. it's been saved in my drafts box. but it's done now. moving on.

four month visit and no more boobie buffet

Olivia is growing "beautifully" as Dr. Lestz said. She said she couldn't ask for a more beautiful growth curve. Haha. I'm so proud. :)

She got four vaccines today. No fun. She cried and Luke watched. He was out the door in a flash after he watched sister get her shots. Little did he know he was getting a "surprise" flu shot today. Lucky for him, they were out of the regular vaccine and he qualified for the nasal spray. At first he reasoned with the nurse by telling her he didn't have a nose, therefore she could not give him the spray. Once a lolly pop was brought to the negotiation table he was game and flared his little nostrils for her. He laughed and said it tickled.

The doc said we are free to start rice cereal (started this last week) and can introduce barley or oat cereal next week. There really is no benefit to starting veggies and fruits until 6 months so I will try to hold her off until then with the rice cereal. She loves her cereal though and gets hysterical each time I have to take the spoon from her mouth to get more. I have pictures from her first cereal I will post soon.

She doesn't really roll over yet, still just doesn't care to, but she does do what we have termed "baby crunches". She lifts her head and shoulders off the ground like she is doing a sit up and holds it for several seconds. I was counting today and she did it at least ten times in a row. The girl has mad abs!

Oh, and our doc also advised me to stop allowing Olivia to sleep in bed with us and enjoy the boobie buffet all night long. She said feed her and put her back in bed immediately. Poor sister.

two month well baby visit

Olivia had her two month visit today and it's official...she's a chunk, as we suspected.

Height: 24.75 inches (97%)
Head Circumference: 15.75 inches (67%)

She got four shots today, no fun. She was NOT happy and cried and whimpered all the way back out to the car. Poor baby.

We go back when she is four months.
