another luke funny

So, it has kind of become an after church tradition, that every Sunday we go to Pasados for lunch.  Nick and I love it, it's cheap, the kids will eat it, AND they have free sopapillas and ice cream!  So, really it's a no brainer.

Anyway, back to my story.  So, we are sitting at the table waiting on our food and Luke just keeps screaming "AHHHH!", over and over.  Nick is like, "Luke!  Stop screaming!  What are you doing?!"  Luke says, "Dad, I'm just trying to scare myself to get rid of my hiccups."  Duh.

That kid, I swear.

choo-choo heads

So the other night we were leaving El Fenix, after having dinner with my family, and as we were walking out to the car we passed by two girls who were standing outside smoking cigarettes. Luke looked at them and pointed and started calling them "choo-choo heads". He was laughing and saying "you're a choo-choo head!"

I tried to shush Luke and hurry him by, so it wasn't until I got to the car that I realized what he was saying. I asked him why he said that and he said because they had smoke coming out of their heads. Haha! This kid seriously cracks me up with the things that come out of his mouth. I bet those two girls enjoyed being made fun of by a 3 year old.

luke funny

i was sitting on the couch this morning drinking my coffee, watching sesame street with luke. it was the episode about how Telly (sp?) and another monster trap a firefly in a jar. luke said "he so sad. he want to be free to see his fam-a-wee". I said "yes, he's so sad. it's not very nice to trap him in the jar, huh?"

the next thing i know luke hops up and walk over to the tv and smashes the top of his head into the tv screen. i was thinking "what on earth?" then he walked back over to me with this awful, sad face and said "they not let me in the screen. they not want me to let the firefly free. ahhhhhh. now i so sad."

HAHAHAHAHA!

conversations with lukey, take two

{luke always tries to get into conversations with people when we are out. today, it was the nurses at the doctor's office.}

luke: (pointing to his head) "you see this? that my curlies? you like curlies?"

nurse: "yes. i love your curly hair. i wish i had curls like that."

luke: "yay, but you don't. just lukeys have curlies."

nurse: "oohhh."

luke: "someday, when you get widdle like me, you can have curlies too."

nurse: (laughing)

luke: "that make you happy? that make you laugh? (forced fake laugh)

conversations with lukey

{driving to take sister to the doctor's office today. we see a big office building where a crane is hoisting some kind of boxes up to the top floor window, which is busted out.}

luke: "what happened, mommy?"

me: "i don't know, it looks like the window got broken and they are trying to fix it."

luke: "sometimes, the wolf come and huff and puff and blow your window out."

me: "oh, really? is that what you think happened?"

luke: (in a very matter of fact tone) "yes."

two year olds are so literal

I realized today that, if taken literally, I am kind of a scary mommy. I wonder why phrases like "come here, let me wipe your face off" and "let me brush your hair out" send the poor kid running a screaming. He is really scared!

a couple of luke funnies

{yesterday} I am at my wits end with him. It's 6pm and I am counting down the minutes until Nick makes it home. Luke insists on picking out his own sippy cup. He is standing on the kitchen counter, with me behind him, with his finger on his chin, going "hmmmm...hmmmm". This goes on for at least two minutes. I finally say "okay, Luke, pick one out or mommy is going to pick it out for you."

He responds by saying "Please not make me upset, mommy".

{today} I am attempting to fold laundry and Luke walks up to me and says "you wanna play with me?" "Please not be afraid of me, mommy". Haha. He kind of startled me when he came up and I guess I must have looked scared.

you know what they say about payback...

Ever since Luke climbed out of his crib and we had to transition him into a big boy bed, he has been protesting every night. He cries and bangs on the door for us to "open the door, mama". We had to put a lock on the outside of his door to keep him in (at the recommendation of our pediatrician).

Well today, Luke only napped for about an hour. I did not think this was enough, but since he was being so sweet and smiley, I agreed to let him finish his nap on the couch. He laid down and I turned on Backyardigans for him. He was laying on the couch (awake) for about 30-45 minutes. I finished cleaning the living room, vacuuming, and then went outside to take out some trash and bring in the mail. When I tried to come back inside, the door was locked!!! I knocked and Luke knocked back and yelled "knock, knock" and then started laughing hysterically. I knew this was not going to be good.

I said "open the door, Lukey" and then he said (in a sing song kind of way), "no-oo". I told him a few more times to open the door and each time he said "NO" with a little more sass. Olivia was inside in her swing, mind you.

I went across the street to Brooke's house. She was not home. I went next door to Lucy's house. She was not home. I went several house down to Tiffany's house. She was not home either! I started to panic. I went back to the front door and demanded that Luke "open the door!" Again, he said "NO!!!"

I sat and thought for a second. It is over a hundred degrees outside and I am starting to sweat. I had an idea. I went back to the door and said "open the door, Lukey, and mommy will give you ice cream". He said "ice ceam??" and started immediately fiddling with the door lock. He was becoming frantic, saying "mommy give Lukey ice ceam?" over and over. Finally, he said "I can't reach it, Mommy". So I told him to go get a chair and he said okay. I heard him drag a chair from the kitchen over, bang it up against the front door and then a few seconds later...wa-la...the lock turned and the door came open!!!

He popped his little head around the door and smiled and said "where my ice ceam, mama??"

So, I guess one would say I got what was coming to me...

Note To Self: Don't turn back on that little turkey for one second.

luke funnies

Nick took Luke to the pool the other day and was throwing him up in the air into the water. Luke stopped and said "NO, Daddy, Lukey not the ball!" Hahaha!

I was playing with Luke last night and pretending to eat his hair, nose, ears, etc. He usually gets mad and tells me to "spit it out, Mommy" and give them back. Well, last night he said "NO, Mommy, Lukey not the popcorn!" Hahaha!

I have no idea where this kid comes up with this stuff sometimes, but he cracks me up. I still laugh every time I think about it.

"i don't wanna be happy"

This morning I was brushing out Luke's hair after we washed it and he kept saying "Ouchie, Mommy! I don't wanna be happy. I don't wanna be happy."

I was like "what?? You don't wanna be happy? What are you talking about?"

It took me a few seconds to realize that he was trying to say "I don't wanna be handsome." I always say that after we brush out his hair. I'll say "look how handsome you are!"

Haha...this made me laugh this morning.

mommy's milk

Luke has been very interested in me nursing Olivia. The first time, he came over and watched intently and asked a thousand questions about "mommy's milk". He thought it was pretty funny and kept laughing about it. Then, yesterday while I nursing, he came over and put his mouth on my elbow and started sucking and saying he wanted to drink "mommy's milk". I just let him do it and, really, it just about made me cry because I felt so bad for him. He is still such a baby himself and it's hard to watch him have to be the "big boy" sometimes.

So then today, on the way home from the pediatrician's office, I hear Luke talking to Olivia in the back seat. Olivia was getting a little squirmy in her seat and Luke was lifting up his shirt, pointing to his boobie, saying "you want 'mommy's milk' baby sister?"

It was too cute!

luke on potty training

{Luke has been waking up with a dry diaper lately so I have been trying to rush him to the potty first thing in the morning. A few days ago he began standing up to try and go pee pee. He will stand there and bend his legs a little and make straining noises.}

Me: "You can do it! Make pee pee in the potty! That a boy!"

Luke: (with the most serious face you can imagine) "It not workin'. It broken. It need new bad-wees (batteries)."

Hahaha!

This kid cracks me up sometimes!

barbeque & still pregnant

{37 wks, 3 days} I am sitting here trying to recap the weekend and I cannot, for the life of me, remember what we did on Friday, or the rest of the weekend, for that matter. I do remember that we made a few trips to the neighborhood pool, I made a Boboli Pizza at some point, and on Saturday evening we went to a barbeque at my friend, Lisa's house, but most of the weekend is a blur. I feel like pregnancy makes me go retarded. It's like all the blood is flowing away from my brain or something. I cannot remember anything, I cannot think, and complete sentences are a thing of the past. What is it about pregnancy that does this to a person?? Is it not enough that it takes your thighs, butt, and boobs hostage as it transforms them into those of a complete stranger?? Must it take my mind too!

So, anyhoo...we had so much fun at the barbeque and it was so cute to watch Luke play with his little buddies. Yes, there was the occassional toddler smack down and, yes, Luke did bop his friend, Cole, on the head with a golf club a few too many times, but I think they had fun...haha. As for the rest of us, it was heaven to just sit outside in the shade, enjoy a sparkling lemonade, and relax. I couldn't help but find myself thinking that that may have been my last Saturday as a mother of one.

I have such mixed emotions lately. I am so extremely excited to meet my little daughter and snuggle her up in my arms. I think, perhaps, even more excited this time around, knowing just how amazing that whole experience will be. But then, when Luke starts crying for me to "hold you" and I just can't because of this enormous basketball under my shirt, I feel sad for him. He is still my baby and I want more than anything to be able to swoop him up anytime he needs me, rock him to sleep every night (if he'd let me), and play and wrestle with him on the floor until we are laughing so hard that we "pee-pee our diapers". I know this is all going to change soon once there are two little ones to compete for my attention, but we will figure it out and it will be even more amazing that I could ever imagine.

So, back to our weekend...after a blur of a Sunday (church, pool, lunch, nap, manicure/pedicure, shopping) we headed over to my mom's house for pot roast. We had some free tickets to the movies that we wanted to use before the baby came so we thought this would be a good opportunity to let Luke spend some time with Nana, while Mommy and Daddy get one last date night. (I keep referring to things as "the last weekend", "the last date night", "the last blah blah blah"...I sound like I'm about to walk the plank or something...haha).

So, my mom had bought these two giant blow up boats, one of which was a fire rescue boat (see above pic) complete with an operable watergun, and had placed them out in the pool. This was a little too much for Luke to handle as we would soon find out. The idea was that we would go outside to show Cameron the fire boat and then go back inside to eat dinner. After dinner, we said, they could all go swimming. So Luke starts shuffling his feet closer and closer to the pool and just as I reach to grab his arm and steer him back up the steps inside the house, he turns and runs. He does not even hesitate as he takes a running jump through the air and onto the fire boat. He only makes it half way on, with his legs dangling in the water, but is quickly able to pull himself the rest of the way up onto the boat. The momentum of his jump caused the boat to dart toward the deep end and, of course, I was in a panick. I was trying to lean over the edge and grab the string to the boat, all the while telling Luke to stay still, when all of a sudden, this blur of a person jumps from what seems like over my shoulder, into the pool. When the blur finally surfaced, I realized it was my little sister, Laurin. Haha...she was like "you guys were going to let a two year old float on a boat out in the deep end??" Her quick thinking created quite a splash and drenched Luke, but I was glad to see her "jump to action" whereas the rest of us, including me, Luke's own mother, were just screaming on the side of the pool. If he had fallen in the water, I would have certainly jumped in without hesitation, but when you have a dare-devil son like Luke you come to expect these kinds of things from him and so it's not necessarily shocking when he goes 007 and jumps 3 feet onto a pool float.

Please, oh please, let Olivia have a little more sense than her big brother...haha. I'm not sure my heart can handle it :)

initial review

So far so good. I opened the box today to double check that my chicco infant carrier will fit in this stroller. And, it did! Yay! I told Luke to hop in and I would take him for a ride around the house. He is obviously a little confused about his role because he hopped into the infant carrier and started asking for a "bay-bee baba". But, I'm not going to let that worry me too much about how he is going to adjust to baby sister. :)

So, back to the review. It required virtually zero energy on my part to get it put together which is a MAJOR plus these days. All I had to do was pop on the hoods, cup holder, and trays and we were ready to rock. It's super light and easy to manuever (around the house) and even fit through the front doorway without a problem. It is a little tricky to close up but once I figured it out and realized that it stands up on it's own, it racked up a few more points.

It also comes with this awesome cardboard box that, when tilted up against the couch, doubles as a house on which your two year old can climb on top off and bang with a hammer pretending to be a "worker man". Then, when that looses it's excitement you can push it back down on the floor and jump back and forth from the couch pretending that it's a boat and sharks are going to get you! And, finally, when that is no fun anymore, you can pull the huge plastic bag out of the box, tangle your feet up in it, and try walking up the box, falling, of course, everytime your clumsy little toddler legs make a move. This is sure to entertain both you and your toddler for hours. Or, perhaps we are just easily entertained...haha :)

On the serious side...the only negative I can see at this point is that one of the hoods is a little floppy and droops on the side. If it droops like this now, I wonder how it will look after Luke has pulled down on it 723 times! We shall see...
