good morning

So as everyone knows we are still enduring our night time battles with the dukester. Pretty much every night he sneaks or comes running and screaming into our room. As a means of survival lately, I have just been going and getting in bed with him when this happens. At least that way, Nick can get a decent night sleep.

Anyhow, the other morning I awoke to Lukey totally snuggled up to me like usual, but as he started to stir he sat up and the first thing he said was "mama, you look aMAZin'! You're the most beautiful mama in the whole world!" Haha! I'm pretty sure I did look "amazing" first thing in the morning. Little charmer knows just what to say to keep his mama sleeping in his bed.

bugs, yuck

DSC_0035-blog2

this is what luke carried into the house today and surprised me with. he came in from playing in the backyard and said "i have a surprise for you mommy". his hands were behind his back and, i have to admit, i was a little nervous and rightfully so. he then said "close your eyes". i did, reluctantly. and then when i opened them, this is what i saw. i screamed, of course. and then made him go back outside to pose for a picture.

boys and bugs. yuck!

water park a la lukey

so i did something yesterday that i rarely do. i attempted to have a conversation with a dear friend...on the phone...while both kids were awake. (GASP!) i thought all was well and even briefly remember having the thought, "wow, maybe lukey is growing out of this 'i will do everything in my power to keep mommy from talking to anyone but me' phase. maybe i can actually have adult conversations over the phone rather than quick, sporadic texts and emails or the occasional whisper conversation while the kids are both napping (which by the way hardly ever happens)".

where was i? oh, yes. lukey. so just as our conversation gets into full throttle, i hear water running (never a good sound). i walk calmly to the bathroom where i find luke pouring cupful after cupful of water onto the bathroom floor. he is sloshing and splashing around in it with his feet. i say in my most calm, mommy voice (i am still on the phone, you know), "lukey, honey, what are you doing?" to which he responds (with the most excited/proud little smile on his face), "i'm making a water park, mommy."

at that point, the phone conversation was ended and mommy and lukey had a little chat about why we do not make water parks inside our house. just another day in the evans' house.

to all of my friends,

one of these days i will be able to talk on the phone again, until that day comes please continue to text or email. i will respond on a "kids-allowing" basis, probably after 8pm (bedtime) or between the hours of 1 and 3pm (naptime) during the day. i just cannot risk another water park episode, my baseboards are water logged as it is.

thanks for your cooperation.

love you,

juli

bedtime conversations with lukey

so every night, after bath and story time, I lay in bed with lukey and snuggle him or rub his back and we talk. it's so cute, because he usually likes to recap the day and tell me about all the fun things he did or he tells me about what he wants to do the next day. i love this time with him because he is so sweet and snuggly and says some of the cutest things.

anyway, so tonight i asked him "what are your favorite things?"

he said, in this order...

1. Buddy (cousin/best friend)
2. KK (cousin/best friend)
3. cinnamon rolls
4. smackers (he clapped his hands together, i assumed he just meant all things that you can smack together and make noise)
5. snackies (fruit snacks, of course)
6. m&ms
7. and sister (haha...love how she made it on the list after m&ms)

conversations with lukey, take two

{luke always tries to get into conversations with people when we are out. today, it was the nurses at the doctor's office.}

luke: (pointing to his head) "you see this? that my curlies? you like curlies?"

nurse: "yes. i love your curly hair. i wish i had curls like that."

luke: "yay, but you don't. just lukeys have curlies."

nurse: "oohhh."

luke: "someday, when you get widdle like me, you can have curlies too."

nurse: (laughing)

luke: "that make you happy? that make you laugh? (forced fake laugh)

conversations with lukey

{driving to take sister to the doctor's office today. we see a big office building where a crane is hoisting some kind of boxes up to the top floor window, which is busted out.}

luke: "what happened, mommy?"

me: "i don't know, it looks like the window got broken and they are trying to fix it."

luke: "sometimes, the wolf come and huff and puff and blow your window out."

me: "oh, really? is that what you think happened?"

luke: (in a very matter of fact tone) "yes."
