water park a la lukey

so i did something yesterday that i rarely do. i attempted to have a conversation with a dear friend...on the phone...while both kids were awake. (GASP!) i thought all was well and even briefly remember having the thought, "wow, maybe lukey is growing out of this 'i will do everything in my power to keep mommy from talking to anyone but me' phase. maybe i can actually have adult conversations over the phone rather than quick, sporadic texts and emails or the occasional whisper conversation while the kids are both napping (which by the way hardly ever happens)".

where was i? oh, yes. lukey. so just as our conversation gets into full throttle, i hear water running (never a good sound). i walk calmly to the bathroom where i find luke pouring cupful after cupful of water onto the bathroom floor. he is sloshing and splashing around in it with his feet. i say in my most calm, mommy voice (i am still on the phone, you know), "lukey, honey, what are you doing?" to which he responds (with the most excited/proud little smile on his face), "i'm making a water park, mommy."

at that point, the phone conversation was ended and mommy and lukey had a little chat about why we do not make water parks inside our house. just another day in the evans' house.

to all of my friends,

one of these days i will be able to talk on the phone again, until that day comes please continue to text or email. i will respond on a "kids-allowing" basis, probably after 8pm (bedtime) or between the hours of 1 and 3pm (naptime) during the day. i just cannot risk another water park episode, my baseboards are water logged as it is.

happy birthday sissy!

i cannot believe our little sissy is already a year old! i have to admit, it's bitter sweet. on the one hand, i love that she is turning into such a "big girl" and can play with lukey and is really beginning to have her own opinions about things, and just watching her little personality come to life. but, then i look at her and think where did my little baby go? i still love our snuggle time, i think she will always be a cuddly kid, but her diapers are getting bigger, her breath is getting a little stinky at times, and she can throw down the sass with the best of them.

but, really, what a blessing to have two healthy, wonderful children that call me mom. i feel so lucky to have them in my life and to be a witness to the beautiful relationship that is growing between them.

so without further adieu...

home from the hospital

that's just great

apparently i am not eligible to renew my driver's license online, which means i have to drag my TWO children up to the DPS. the last time i had to do this, luke was just about olivia's age now and it ended up being so much "fun" that i came home and rocked back and forth in the fetal position until nick got home.

anyone else need to make a trip up to the old DPS. come on, it will be fun. i'll bring some starbucks and we can make a playdate out of it. anyone? anyone? please.

two a days

we started our day off at the park with our little gym friends, ran to micky-d's for some lunch and more playtime, skipped back home for a quick nap (a no-go for lukey) and now we are about to head off to our friday neighborhood playdate.

and this, my friends, is what you call a "two-a-day". who ever said staying at home was easy? this is hard work people! :)

gratitude journal

not sure if this will become a regular thing or not, but i've always loved the idea of taking time each day to think about the things we are thankful for. so here it goes, my 5 for today.

1. the fact that we have enough money for me to go buy pretty flowers and spend the day planting them with lukey.

2. naps & dvr (those go together because without naps there is no mommy time and without dvr mommy time just isn't the same, no offense maury.)

3. costco (so i only have one BIG trip to the grocery store a month. i love spending time with my kids, just not inside a grocery store.)

4. my sisters (i realize how lucky i am to have two sisters living nearby who also stay at home with their kids and how special it is that we get to experience motherhood together. i mean, who else, will put my kid in time out if i'm too busy changing a poopy diaper. and for that, i'm grateful.)

5. nick (totally supportive & truly values me staying at home to raise the kids)
